Born and raised in Lacrosse, WI, Lexie Lakmann discovered her passion for music at a young age. Immersed in the sounds of her parents teaching and performing music, it’s no surprise that she was singing professionally by the age of 14. Throughout her time at Onalaska High School, she continued to expand her professional experiences singing for weddings, variety shows, and with a local cover band. Lexie went on to double major in Music Education and Jazz Studies Performance at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, graduating with her Bachelors in 2021.
During her time at UWSP Lexie studied classical voice with Dr. Matthew Markham, and jazz with Mathew Buchman and Dr. Timothy Buchholz. She received two Downbeat Student Music Awards (2020, 2021) and added some notable performance experiences to her resume, including the Riverfront Jazz Festival, Central/North-Central ACDA Conference, and the Jazz Coterie series, to name a few.
Lexie is currently located in the Fox Valley area of Wisconsin and continues to expand her network as a vocalist. Although many of her accolades are in the jazz realm, Lexie enjoys performing in many genres including R&B, rock, pop, and soul. Her 10+ years of professional experience, paired with her wide variety of vocal stylings have quickly made her a sought after musician in the area. Lately, you can find her performing with The Presidents, Fox Menagerie, The Pocket Kings, Jazz Orgy, Sox ‘n Sandlz, and more.
The Homemade Music series features Lexie Lakmann’s original “Sunshine Rains” co-written by Nolan Hanke. This is the first original and debut performance of the emerging Funk/R&B band, Sox n’ Sandlz.
